Über Kateryna
I am a native Ukrainian speaker, language teacher, philologist and translator. I grew up and completed most of my education in Ukraine, where I studied English philology, literature, translation and international relations. I currently live and study in Germany.
Since 2019, I have supported children, teenagers and adults in learning and improving foreign languages. My experience includes individual tutoring, group lessons, online teaching and informal conversation programmes. In adult education, I have worked with learners from different linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds, including migrants, refugees and international university students.
As part of my educational and integration work as a volunteer in Malteser, I have taught individuals and groups, helped organise language café and supported learners with everyday communication, university life, applications and orientation in a new linguistic environment.
My academic background includes:
• a bachelor’s degree with honours in English Philology, Language and Literature
• a master’s degree in International Economic Relations with a professional qualification as an interpreter
• studies in English and American Studies and Political Science in Germany
• additional university studies in theatre education and performative practice
• extensive experience in translation, intercultural communication and integration support
My philological education allows me to explain grammar, vocabulary and language structures systematically. As a translator, I pay particular attention to differences in meaning, natural wording and expressions that cannot be translated literally as well as repetition and a supportive environment in which mistakes are a natural part of learning.

Would you like to learn Ukrainian to communicate with family, friends or colleagues, understand Ukraine better, or prepare for travel, work, research or volunteering? I will help you not only memorise grammar rules, but understand how it works and use it confidently in real situations.
My lessons are suitable for beginners and advanced learners, including teenagers, adults and heritage learners with Ukrainian family backgrounds. Every lesson is adapted to your level, learning pace, interests and goals.
Depending on your needs, we can work on:
• reading the Ukrainian alphabet confidently and recognising handwritten letters
• pronouncing difficult Ukrainian sounds such as г and ґ, и and і, and ї, є, ю and я
• distinguishing hard and soft consonants and developing natural word stress
• managing your first conversations: introductions, family, daily life, shopping and travel
• understanding and using grammar such as seven cases
• building natural Ukrainian sentences rather than translating word for word
• improving speaking, listening comprehension and pronunciation
• reading news, literature, song lyrics and social-media content
• writing messages, emails and personal or professional texts
• developing conversational vocabulary and understanding emotional and polite nuances
• exploring Ukrainian regions, culture, traditions and contemporary society
• recognising differences between standard Ukrainian, everyday speech and regional varieties
Heritage learners can systematise the Ukrainian they already understand, develop reading and writing skills, correct recurring mistakes and turn a passive family vocabulary into confident active communication.
Beginners may receive explanations in English or German whenever necessary. As your level improves, we will gradually use more Ukrainian during our lessons, allowing you to develop an intuitive feel for the language. I correct mistakes clearly and respectfully without constantly interrupting the flow of conversation.
During our first meeting, we will discuss your previous experience, motivation and specific goals. I will then design a suitable learning path. You will not receive a rigid standard programme: the content and pace will depend on whether you mainly want to speak, read, write; communicate with family, understand Ukrainian culture or use the language for academic and professional purposes.
