Über Sophia
I am a Swedish contemporary abstract painter, residing in Berlin. My art education took place in Stockholm, Northern Finland and on Gotland - a small Swedish island. Since then I have worked with both animation, film, drawing and painting. Through these different areas and my long experience, I have built up a broad knowledge and acquired many good tools to convey it. I think it is very important to find your playfulness and sense of fun and also to embrace uncertainty and dare to take chances.

The most important thing for me as a teacher is to convey that art is fun, easy and that everyone can make art. My goal is to ignite the passion and playfulness to create and that your art is an important contribution both to yourself but also to the world. I want art to be accessible to everyone and that you can create with simple means, with the materials you already have. Paper and pencil will go a long way. You don't need (but of course you can go nuts and buy whatever you'd like) expensive art materials to make good art. The methods I use are simple and unusual exercises depending on individual goals. Sometimes I use a deck of cards with different exercises written on each card, often with a time limit. For example, "paint everything you see that is yellow in 5 minutes". The important thing is to get your process started without letting the intellectual and critical part of you take over. We start the lesson by clarifying the goals and purpose for the individual student and then I tailor the lesson accordingly, always with the aim of having fun together. My special qualities as a teacher are that I am very responsive and good at adapting the teaching to the individual's goals. I like to have fun and want to bring humor and playfulness into my lessons. This course is suitable for all levels, whether you are a beginner or experienced as long as you have an open mind.
