Über Meagan
Hi! I’m Meagan, originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, where I was born and raised. I first came to Germany in 2016 after meeting my German Au Pair family in San Diego, California, in 2015. I came to Cologne to work with them and have been living here ever since. Over the years, working with children has remained something I genuinely love.
My home is in the near of Eigelstein in Cologne. I currently work full-time in technical customer support at SENA Technologies in Dellbrück, Monday to Friday. I can usually finish work around 16:30, so I’m primarily available for lessons in the evenings and on weekends.
I offer English support for children from around 2–12 years old, and I especially enjoy working with younger children. My goal is not to make English feel like another school subject. I want children to associate English with something fun, creative, active and natural.
I’m a very active person and have a huge passion for sports. I also have a strong creative side through music, art and other creative projects. I love bringing these interests into learning, whether that means playing games, moving around, drawing, singing, storytelling, exploring outside or simply using a child’s own interests to make English more engaging.
I believe children learn particularly well when movement and learning are combined. Instead of expecting a child to sit still for an entire lesson, I like to keep them involved, active and curious. Repetition is also a big part of my approach, but I try to make repetition feel like play rather than drilling.
For younger children, I focus on building confidence with basic English, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening and everyday communication. For older children, I can also support reading, writing, homework, conversation and general confidence in using English.
Most importantly, I want every child to feel comfortable being themselves. My goal is to make learning something they look forward to, rather than something they have to do.
Availability: Monday–Friday after approximately 16:00/ 17:30, depending on location, and weekends by arrangement.
Location: I live near Eigelstein and work in Dellbrück during the week. For locations more than approximately 35 minutes away, I charge an additional €5 travel fee. I’m also happy to discuss longer-term monthly packages for families looking for regular lessons.

Ich bin sehr gut darin, körperliche Aktivitäten mit dem Lernen zu verbinden. Gerade bei Kindern kann Bewegung dazu beitragen, die Aufmerksamkeit und die Aktivierung des präfrontalen Kortex zu unterstützen und Lerninhalte durch wiederholtes Üben langfristiger im Gedächtnis zu verankern.
Bei Kindern im Alter von etwa 3 bis 6 Jahren ist es außerdem ganz normal, dass sie neue Informationen sehr häufig wiederholen und in unterschiedlichen Situationen erleben müssen, bevor sie wirklich sicher sitzen. Deshalb arbeite ich gerne mit Bewegung, Spielen und wiederholten Übungen, anstatt zu erwarten, dass ein Kind etwas bereits nach wenigen Erklärungen beherrscht.

ENGLISH:
I believe children learn best when they can move, play, and interact with what they are learning rather than simply sitting and listening. Repetition is also very important at a young age. Children often need to encounter the same information many times, and in different contexts, before it becomes firmly established in their memory.
That’s why I like to make learning active, playful, and varied, while naturally repeating key concepts throughout the lessons.

Details
Wenn ich länger als 35 Minuten unterwegs sein muss, würde ich zusätzlich 5 € berechnen. In der Vergangenheit habe ich auch schon längerfristige Pakete angeboten, bei denen man etwas sparen kann.
Zum Beispiel könnte ich mir vorstellen, mindestens 30 Stunden im Monat zu machen, für insgesamt 600 €.
