Über Murray
I am a teacher, father, and traveler who enjoys interacting with, learning from, and teaching people from different parts of the world. Indeed, I studied cultural anthropology as a graduate student and later taught in widely different educational settings. The cultural differences I have experienced personally (raising a bilingual daughter) and professionally (teaching in the USA, Mexico, and Germany) have helped me to become a more effective teacher sensitive to the needs of my students. I enjoy staying abreast of current events (political, economic, and cultural), reading in my free time (mainly fiction in English, though I do read in German and Spanish), and long-distance running (a great way to get outside and test your limits). My teaching in Germany has mainly focused on Business English with professionals, but I also have experience working with school children and young adults!

Hello! I am happy to offer English lessons to motivated learners! I hold a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics with a focus on Teaching English as a Foreign Language and have over 17 years of teaching experience in several countries. I have taught university students in the USA and Mexico, as well as professionals and business people in Germany. And having raised a bilingual daughter, I also enjoy working with school kids! I tend to use a four skills approach incorporating listening, reading, speaking, and writing activities in my classes. Speaking is the focus in the classroom, and writing homework will be expected outside of class so that you can reach your language learning goals. I tailor my classes to the needs and interests of the learner, using authentic materials such as news articles and videos, as well as textbooks and AI-generated materials for input, review, and assessment. I am also experienced in English language test preparation, especially for the TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC tests. I can also offer preparation for the English Abitur or provide help for pupils in their own school English lessons, using their own textbooks and learning materials.
