Über Saip-Can
I am a part-time software developer (30 hrs/w) and do part-time research at the university in visual computing - specifically, realistic computer graphics. The mathematical models and algorithms we design and apply are widely used in visual effects (e.g., the movie industry) and in scientific modeling.
While I wait for my doctoral studies, I have decided to offer lessons to people who like to learn programming in a different way. Although this methodology worked in my case, it might not work for everyone. So this will be a very interesting experiment for me as well, and I also hope to learn more about teaching and communicating abstract and technical ideas in more intuitive forms.
Overall, I am a very laid-back, relaxed person and don’t take myself too seriously. I am very enthusiastic about my field, but also appreciate my outside life: lots of tennis, cycling, cinema, (astro)photography, and baking.

My lessons are oriented towards how to think and how to program in general, rather than programming in a specific language. While this attitude towards "programming" takes time to get used to, in the long run, it gives you the ability to write and read programs in any arbitrary language.
Since my specialization is in visual computing, I also rely heavily on visualizations and analogies to help you translate complex technical tasks into more relatable examples you might have encountered in day-to-day life. Our main goal is to break tasks into small, independent parts for creating the illusion of manageability - very similar to real life*.
I am a research engineer, investigating new techniques in realistic computer graphics - so-called physically based rendering or light transport simulation. Once we learn the basics of programming (e.g., in C++ or Python), my lessons will focus on computer graphics and vision, where we will learn how to render realistic-looking scenes, animations, and simulations. While this might seem unorthodox for learning programming, the idea is to separate “learning programming” in the technical domain for abstract and unintuitive tasks into something that you can actually apply and relate to in real life.
My lessons are directed toward anyone who likes - or has - to learn programming in a more intuitive way. In particular, in these lessons, we are not gonna focus on web development, database management, etc. Rather, our focus will be on scientific computing, which is potentially particularly attractive to people with a scientific background.
*In these lessons, we embrace bleak and self-deprecative humor as much as possible.
