Über Ashlyn
I'm an American that recently moved to Berlin, about two months ago. I was attending Arizona State University, seeking a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. I've come to Germany for primarily personal reasons, and because I can obtain citizenship through ancestry. I adore writing, it's always the most fun part of political science. Understanding and being able to communicate in complex language is an important part of life, and I'd love to tutor anyone looking to understand English on a native level.

Being a political science student, I've gathered a lot of experience in both academic and casual English. Written English is a subject I can offer lots of support in, while also offering speaking lessons in the American dialect of English. The typical lesson I offer will be primarily focused on reading and writing. However, I also offer speaking lessons focusing on understanding how English is interpreted verbally in both relaxed and professional settings. Spoken English is a lot more vibes-based than written English. Similar to German, sarcasm and saying things non-literally is integral to how people express themselves, which can make understanding written English and spoken English quite a contradicting experience. With that in mind, a lesson with me will primarily involve guided and non-guided reading practice, conversations about the reading to ensure understanding of the text and to practice fluent speaking of the language, and short writing portions. All of this will range between both professional and casual to ensure immersion in the language. There will also be occasional listening of audio to ensure you're able to understand spoken English, especially of different American dialects. All lessons will be taught only in English, as full immersion in the language is important to learning it. If absolutely needed, a translation of a word can be offered. Though it is preferable to look up what a word means in an English dictionary and understand it that way.
