Über Maja
I am a 28-year-old Hungarian freelance singer, bandleader, composer, arranger, and private music teacher.
My musical journey began with classical piano as a child, but after ten years, I discovered my passion for jazz and vocal performance. In 2013, I was fortunate to win the 1st prize and five special awards at the Dezső Lakatos Ablakos Jazz Competition in Hungary. During my high school years, I balanced intense music studies (including private lessons with Roseanna Vitro in New York, David Linx in Brussels, Dena DeRose in Vienna, Gábor Winand in Budapest) with the opportunity to perform with jazz ensembles and big bands. In 2015, I was accepted into the Jazz Institute Berlin, a joint college of Universität der Künste and Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler." There, I had the privilege of learning from the renowned Judy Niemack, who -among many other legends- guided my development in vocal technique, improvisation, composition, arranging, and music theory. Since earning my Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Vocals, I’ve pursued a versatile career as a professional musician. I work with various producers, and perform in many different constellations. In recent years, I’ve become more open to different genres, especially pop and neo-soul. This shift has expanded my musical range and influenced my compositions, allowing me to explore new sounds and styles in my work and collaborations. I also sing in a choir, adding a different dimension to my vocal practice. Alongside performing and the creative process behind the scenes, I am dedicated to teaching students of all ages and sharing my knowledge of music. While I plan to stay in Berlin for the next few years, performing and enriching my artistic practice, I have also been offered a place to pursue a Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Songwriting at ICMP in London, which I’ve deferred for now.

The singing lessons I offer are tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals, with a strong focus on building a solid foundation in posture, diaphragmatic breathing, and understanding how the body works to produce a healthy, sustainable sound. Lessons include personalized warm-ups and vocal technique exercises, as well as learning songs that are both challenging and enjoyable. I adapt my approach based on the student's age and objectives, ensuring each session is productive and engaging.
In addition to vocal training, I’m happy to incorporate elements of classical or jazz music theory, Hungarian folk music, musical improvisation, basic composition, piano, or ear training, depending on the student's interests.
I believe that creating a safe and nurturing space during our lessons is essential. Singing can be a very vulnerable experience, and I want you to feel comfortable and supported as we explore your voice together.
Lessons are available in Neukölln, online, or at your home for a small additional fee (provided you have a tuned keyboard or piano).
