Language is a mirror to literature and culture. For oral expression, I would advise beginners to practice and speak loudly in the morning or sometimes daily, the material could be simple dialogue or a short story. And an article would be better for an advanced speaker. For writing, I prefer to ask students to follow a similar style of article examples and then outline their own idea. For reading, I would recommend some books or magazines, depending on the needs and interests. For listening, the videos would be dynamic and funny which helps for concentration.
I am a Chinese student who just finished her Master at Heidelberg University. In my bachelor, my first major was Chinese Language and Literature due to good performance in the subject of Chinese in the admission exam. I love this language, culture and ancient poems especially, but not literature research. Later I transferred my major to economics. But the interest and ability continue because I have been reading articles and write a diary regularly. Since kindergarten, I have been taught lectures in mandarin and use mandarin to communicate with others. Also, I won the first prize in the Chinese essay contest in primary school and three times as the third winner in middle school and high school. Thus I have the confidence to teach it. With respect to teaching, I once volunteered as a Chinese teacher for sixth graders students in a village in Guizhou province of China for more than two weeks. They continued studying with me for some time after the end of this voluntary activity organised by student institutions. I wish I could reflect on my teaching style and methods here as well.
